Rain the Growth Agency approached us with an exciting opportunity to bring SciPlay’s beloved spokes-fish Goldie to life in a dynamic new broadcast campaign for their popular mobile game collection. Building on Rain’s concepts and scripts which featured pop culture icon John Stamos, their creative vision was further enhanced through a close collaboration with Pixel Farm’s Creative Director Jeff Stevens.
From storyboarding and character development to coordinating a seamless low-footprint shoot directed by Jonathan Nowak, Pixel Farm handled every aspect of creative production. Our design and postproduction teams brought the vision to life, including 3D & 2D animation, matte painting, editorial, sound design and mix, color grading, and compositing. By expertly adapting the client’s patented game design and Rain’s creative concepts, we delivered a vibrant broadcast campaign that truly made a splash. (…Apologies for that one.)
Process
The process started with mapping out the spot in storyboards while also dedicating our design and animation teams to figuring out how to adapt an established flat 2D illustrative design that the client needed to adhere to for a fully realized 3D world, including bringing their prized goldfish to life so that he could swim, talk, and interact with its celebrity counterpart.
This involved a combination of modeling in 3D, hand-painting the 3D models in 2D to get the very specific illustrative quality that the client was used to, and then passing everything back to 3D to populate our world and composite our many layers together into the vibrant world we wanted to present.
